Aerospace Cluster Association” ACA is Non – Governmental Organization (NGO) started its activities in year 2010 in Izmir and grown with the participation of companies as members from all over Turkey in line with the vision to support Turkish Aerospace and Defense Industry’s global integration challenge in manufacturing, engineering, design and in R&D by developing valuable projects to its members as well as enhancing their cooperation with the aeronautical clusters abroad.
Turkish Aerospace Industries, INC (TAI)
TAI was restructured in the year 2005, just before the 25 years of period came to an end, with the acquisition of foreign shares by Turkish shareholders. Along with this restructuring, TAI and TUSAS have merged under the roof of Turkish Aerospace Industries, Inc. (TAI) and have broadened its activities. Today, known as Turkish Aerospace Industries, Inc. (TAI) has become Turkey’s center of technology in design, development, modernization, manufacturing, integration and life cycle support of integrated aerospace systems, from fixed and rotary wing air platforms to UAVs and satellites. TAI, which ranks among the top hundred global players in aerospace and defence arena, based its business on five strategic pillars
The Aerospace & Defense Industry in Turkey
The Turkish aerospace and defense industry produces roughly 60% of its own needs for defense, while 40% comes from international sources.
Developments in Turkish Defense and Aerospace Industry
Turkey has set ambitious targets to develop its local defence and aerospace industry (D&A) with a focus on innovation and has therefore put in place attractive financial stimulants. The goal is to be among the world’s leading countries in this sector before the 100 year celebrations of the Republic of Turkey in 2023. The objective is to decrease the dependence on foreign products by supporting the development of the national industry and increasing exports.
OSSA Defence and Aviation Cluster
The idea of OSSA Defence and Aviation Cluster has shaped right after the competetiveness analysis which was implemented within the Organized Industrial Region. The results have pushed these small and medium enterprises to act together and form the defence and aviation cluster which is almost inevitable in nature of these sectors.
Assessment of Defense Industry Clusters in Turkey
According to Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI), the global military expenditure exceeded $1.7 trillion in 2014. Defense spendings are on the rise all over the world. The cost of developing defense sytems is increasing. Therefore, the defense industry attracts many big and small to medium-sized enterprizes (SMEs). While big companies have the necessary resources to take on big defense contracts, SMEs are in a disadvantage due to lack of resources.
