How Innovation Can Transform Your Business Valuation

Even though startup valuation is a complicated topic, it boils down to two general approaches – a top-down and a bottom-up approach.

With a top-down approach, you can argue for a valuation derived from addressable market size and expected market penetration. Or alternatively, you can see the pre/post-money valuation of other startups in your industry and adjust your own valuation based on a direct comparison with them.

For startups with financial history, you can use a bottom-up approach cz-lekarna.com. While you can use discounted cash flows (Net present value) or other more sophisticated valuation methods, this is usually unnecessary, as most projects are valued based on an earnings multiple.

Why are investors willing to pay a huge premium to acquire some businesses and not others?

To answer this question, you need to understand that a higher valuation (i.e. a higher earnings multiple) simply represents higher expectations for future business growth from the investors. The main reason a software company could be expected to grow much more than a business in the coal industry is innovation.

A software company is highly-scalable. It has low marginal costs (cost per unit of additional output), and if it manages to innovate and create unique value on the market, it could grow rapidly and become a leader in its own market niche.

Moreover, the IT industry is historically speaking very new compared to some other businesses, which means there are more opportunities for innovation as the technology is still developing rapidly.

In summary, innovation is the main reason behind high valuation multiples because investors are willing to pay a premium for ventures that have a possibility of rapid growth while potentially creating a defensible solution.

Since risk and opportunity are the main growth drivers behind any project, innovative projects simply have a much higher chance to grow than non-innovative ones. As a result, investing in innovation could be the best thing you can do if you want to significantly increase the value of your business.

Online Brand Credibility

In a time of increasing online competition, it’s tempting for companies to try flash-in-the-pan tactics to get noticed. For example, they can just underprice their competition to attract new consumers. Although that may result in a short burst of new sales, the rush-to-the-bottom approach is likely not sustainable. Establishing the credibility of your brand, so that consumers will be willing to pay a profit-yielding amount for your product or service, is a wiser long-term strategy.

Word-of-mouth advertising has always been essential to building brand credibility. Today’s mouthpieces are social media reviews and ratings, influencers and online content.

An expanding digital world is humming with billions of voices, all asking for consumers to trust and believe in their brands. Rising above the noise can be challenging. Consider these three keys to helping your brand’s online credibility.

Build a Digital Presence to Gain Brand Recognition

Begin with a website that looks great and works well on a range of devices. Fill it with high-quality content that focuses on building brand credibility. Your website needs to be optimized for search so your content will march upward in search engine rankings over time.

While you’re implementing your content strategy, build a complementary social media presence. As you expand onto new platforms, you’re expanding the ways your content can be found, accessed and shared. Clicks, retweets, shares, likes, reviews and ratings are all means of growing your followers.

Building an audience takes time and effort.

Follow Through on What You Promise

Prospects become customers when they agree to take a risk on your brand and buy what you’re selling. So don’t sell them short. If you don’t follow through on the promises you made, they’re going to walk away.

You promised customers that you would solve a problem, produce a quality offering and provide service after the sale. Customers took a chance on you based on what they learned about your brand online. They read your content, customer reviews and product information. Once they take a leap of faith, it’s up to you to earn their trust.

Brand credibility is all about providing what you promised, so you need to deliver. Even better, give customers more than they bargained for. That will keep your brand top of mind—even if you are not number one in search rankings—the next time they’re ready to buy.

Leverage Brand Loyalty

Your digital content and marketing strategy have gotten your brand noticed. A prospect has converted to a customer. Now it’s time to give that customer reasons to stay loyal—and to leverage that loyalty into further growth.

Highlight positive customer reviews and ratings on your website and social media to make sure prospects can see them. Ask delighted customers if they will share their experiences in testimonials and case studies. Then amplify those on your own site and across your social media platforms.

Every brand is competing online to showcase their ability to deliver what they promise. There’s only room for so many at the top. Brands that successfully execute long-term strategies to build recognition, deliver what they promise and leverage customer loyalty will get there. After all, brand credibility is not given, it’s earned.

How to Come Up With More Truly Innovative Ideas

The world’s most successful creative minds and entrepreneurs all have one thing in common: they benefit from innovative thinking. Some people come up with a truly game-changing idea and they use that idea as the basis for a startup, which then can create an entirely new industry. Others use their innovative brains to solve problems in creative new ways, or to get the edge over a top competitor.

What does it take to come up with a truly innovative idea, and can you optimize your environment to help you generate more innovative ideas?  Innovation can occur across many different scales, from system innovation to ground-level innovation. Big-picture system innovation requires you to rethink entire systems and bureaucracies from the ground up, or possibly come up with groundbreaking ideas that create new industries. There are also smaller-scale forms of innovative thinking; for example, you might figure out a new way to butter toast in the morning that saves you 45 seconds of effort.

We also need to differentiate between innovative organizations and innovative people. Innovative people, at the individual level, can come up with ideas that can improve their lives and change their environment. For an innovative organization to emerge, it needs the power of innovative individuals combined with internal mechanisms that allow those individuals and their ideas to thrive.

If you want to master innovative thinking for yourself and for your employees, you need to create environments that stimulate creativity and allow “outside the box thinking.

Allow more downtime.

It’s commonly accepted that people tend to come up with their best ideas in the shower, but why is this the case? Science suggests it’s because we’re bored. When our minds aren’t occupied with anything particularly interesting or important, they wander and that’s when completely novel ideas can strike. If you want to think in a more innovative way, try giving yourself more downtime where you aren’t focused on anything.

Encourage interaction.

People think in different ways and exposing yourself to intellectually diverse groups encourages you to think in new ways. The more people you talk to, and the more ideas and perspectives you see, the more creatively you’ll come to think.

Get stimulated.

Innovative inspiration can strike you anywhere, from any stimulus, so get stimulated. Movies, TV shows, books, podcasts, works of art, and even nature can all help you get inspired, so find something that interests you and provokes your creative thinking.

Learn from other innovative thinkers.

Find some truly innovative minds that inspire you and figure out what drives them. They may have certain habits, certain hobbies, or certain approaches to learning that help them think in dynamic new ways; try these techniques for yourself to see if they work for you just as well.

Embrace ideas from all people and all levels.

If you collect ideas from every member of your organization, you’ll find innovative ideas almost constantly. For that reason, it’s important to give everyone a chance to speak up and embrace ideas no matter where they originate.

Adopt a mentality that favors change and growth האתר שלי.

Old, massive organizations tend to be sluggish and unmovable. In some ways, this is a strength. It also means you’re unable to adopt new ideas with any sort of agility. Your organization needs to be capable of making big changes for ideas worth pursuing.

Encourage autonomy.

While it’s certainly an advantage to have a consistent company culture that affects all people at all levels in the company, it’s also advantageous to encourage isolation and autonomy. Let department leaders and supervisors make their own decisions and changes as they see fit, rather than forcing them to submit every idea to bureaucratic review; chances are, you’ll see a lot more change and growth this way.

Innovation isn’t entirely straightforward, and there’s no way for you to force innovative ideas to come to you manually. However, if you’re willing to make some changes to the way you think, act, and interact with others, you can create an environment that naturally encourages more innovative, game-changing ideas from the ground up.

Breakthrough in Solar Energy: Ultrathin Solar Cells Using 2D Perovskites Get a Boost

Rice University engineers have achieved a new benchmark in the design of atomically thin solar cells made of semiconducting perovskites, boosting their efficiency while retaining their ability to stand up to the environment.

The lab of Rice’s George R. Brown School of Engineering discovered that sunlight itself contracts the space between atomic layers in 2D perovskites enough to improve the material’s photovoltaic efficiency by up to 18%, an astounding leap in a field where progress is often measured in fractions of a percent.

Perovskites are compounds that have cube like crystal frames and are highly efficient light harvesters. Their potential has been known for years. They’re good at converting sunlight into energy, but sunlight and moisture degrade them.

“A solar cell technology is expected to work for 20 to 25 years,” said Mohite, an associate professor of chemical and biomolecular engineering and of materials science and nanoengineering. “We’ve been working for many years and continue to work with bulk perovskites that are very efficient but not as stable. In contrast, 2D perovskites have tremendous stability but are not efficient enough to put on a roof warum schau hier nicht.

The Rice engineers and their collaborators at Purdue and Northwestern universities, U.S. Department of Energy national laboratories Los Alamos, Argonne and Brookhaven and the Institute of Electronics and Digital Technologies (INSA) in Rennes, France, discovered that in certain 2D perovskites, sunlight effectively shrinks the space between the atoms, improving their ability to carry a current.

“We find that as you light the material, you kind of squeeze it like a sponge and bring the layers together to enhance the charge transport in that direction,” Mohite said. The researchers found placing a layer of organic cations between the iodide on top and lead on the bottom enhanced interactions between the layers.

“This effect has given us the opportunity to understand and tailor these fundamental light-matter interactions without creating complex heterostructures like stacked 2D transition metal dichalcogenides,” he said.

“It doesn’t sound like a lot, but this 1% contraction in the lattice spacing induces a large enhancement of electron flow,” said Rice graduate student and co-lead author Wenbin Li. “Our research shows a threefold increase in the electron conduction of the material.”

“One of the major attractions of 2D perovskites was they usually have organic atoms that act as barriers to humidity, are thermally stable and solve ion migration problems,” said graduate student and co-lead author Siraj Sidhik. “3D perovskites are prone to heat and light instability, so researchers started putting 2D layers on top of bulk perovskites to see if they could get the best of both. “We thought, let’s just move to 2D only and make it efficient,” he said.

That could help the Rice team tweak the materials for even better performance. “We’re on a path to get greater than 20% efficiency,” Sidhik said. “It would change everything in the field of perovskites, because then people would begin to use 2D perovskites for 2D perovskite/silicon and 2D/3D perovskite tandems, which could enable efficiencies approaching 30%. That would make it compelling for commercialization.”

East West Infiniti Train WAPDA to use State-of-the-Art Discharge Measurement Technology

Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler

The historic discharge measurement in waterways is based on a lot of lumped empirical “assumed” data, much of these lumped parameters were in discharge tables which were developed by the British.

To computer discharge measurement, techniques took into consideration;

(1)  Cross-section of a water channel.

(2)  Water level at two “stages” downstream.

(3)  Old antiquated “rating tables” (i.e. time taken by a water column to travel from stage level 1 to stage level 2, considering bottom and side friction of the en-route water channel, etc.

The only real-time element measured for determining the discharge is the Water Levels at Stage 1 and Stage 2 downstream, everything else is lumped figures.  Over the years the cross-sections and rating tables of waterways have become inaccurate and presumed discharge numbers are totally unreliable.

Siemens installed from IRSA got 20 years ago a system that just measured gate positions at various dams and barrages to establish how much and for how long a gate was opened to allow water flow downstream, and rest is the use of the inaccurate flow/discharge calculations based on old WAPDA rating tables.

It is imperative to note that the water issues between the provinces, for which the IRSA system was installed, will soon seem trivial compared to international water sharing issues we are (may) be facing with Neighbours both in the East and soon the west. So, it is extremely important that we have the capability to measure “real” discharges.

ADCP Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler technology is used to measure the actual and real volume of water (i.e. cusec) passing at a certain cross-section in a water channel, river, or canal. The system measures water velocity using pulsed sonic waves at all depths across the water channel at one cross-section and provides real volume/flow/discharge values.

East West Infiniti feels gratified contributing to providing solutions to key issues of the country with technology and knowledge inputs.  www.eastwestin.com
