President Pakistan Aerospace Council (PAeC) Dr Haroon Javed Qureshi said that PIA is a national identity for Pakistan, addressing the executive committee meeting held at Islamabad, he appreciated the efforts of Air Marshal Arshad Malik in putting the national carrier on progress trajectory path.
Marred with corruption, inefficiency, nepotism and irrational political appointments had put the national carrier in a state of misery accumulating billions of rupees losses every year. Turning around a sick organization is a daunting task, when signs of recovery are becoming visible, Air Marshal Arshad has been stopped from work on a misleading suit filed by the fake degree holder employees who were sacked on merit and others having vested interests to continue Status quo.
All the council executive members expressed serious concerns on reports regarding stopping the CEO from work and hoped that such nefarious elements would be brought to justice.
President PAeC explained that Air Marshal Arshad is a competent and thoroughbred professional. He introduced best management practices of merit and accountability which helped the airline to restore confidence and pride in its employees thereby twelve 777 and eleven A320 air crafts have been recovered during the past one year which were parked idle for spares and maintenance.
During this period, the revenue has increased by 41% and the best industry practices factor has increased from 20% to 82%. Cargo is one of the major revenues earning opportunity, which again has increased from 19% to 80%.
Air Marshal Arshad also restored huge sets of ground support equipment to save expenditure being paid to other agencies and also accounted for PIA properties lying abandoned or being used by different interest groups in Pakistan and abroad.
The PAeC executive committee hoped that immediate decision will be made in the interest of organization as well Pakistan to allow the competent and capable people to bring back the national institution to a well managed professional organization.
